Sorry that it took so long to get back to you. I was looking over old posts and saw that I had skipped you. Your rifle was manufactured in 1939. The model was discontinued in 1958 after 410,456 were made. The Model was named 62A after serial number 98,000. Though exact dates of changes may vary. All Model 62 guns produced prior to this change had a slide pump forearm that was 5 3/4" long. After that date the slide pump forearm increased to 8" and the number of grooves cut into the wood on the forearm were increased from 10 to 17. Look at your slide and that should let you determine which you have.

An info would be a help cheers
I'm very glad that I found this string! I'm helping my mom with her husband's estate, and I ran across one of these rifles. The serial number is 151xxx. It looks to be in excellent shape. On top of that, it is engraved and has two gold emblems. I have no idea how to determine its value, and would appreciate any input!

After that date the slide pump forearm increased to 8" and the number of grooves cut into the wood on the forearm were increased from 10 to 17.
I have been working on a research survey of the Model 61 rifle for over 6 years now. In that time I have cataloged just over 5000 individual rifles. The serial number sequence is pretty consistent up to SN 349288. Then, some how I have 2 rifles in the 372xxx range and one at 386xxx!!??? S oa gap of more than 20,000 rifles that I can not explain.
I have a winchester model 62 A .22 short with the serial number 740453. The barrel is 23 long and round, slide handle is 6 1/4 long with ten grooves and the opening on the fill tube is shaped like a bullet.
